OK here goes...
Go and order the cap/seal/plug. You will see it on the dealer blow up, it's just in front of the cam toward the right side of the bike. It's about 5 bucks. Get a tube of hi-temp RTV gasket maker.
You will need a good 10mm box and a 10mm socket with 1/8 drive if you have it, pretty tight in some spots. There are three larger bolts maybe 14 or 15mm too.
Pull the seat and tank. I found it easier to pull the lines from the carb rather than the petcock, also the speedo drive from the trans case. There is one electrical plug under the tank you can easily reach once you start to pull it up.
Check where the lines run so you remember where to refeed them.
You need to remove the top frame mount (3 big bolts), the chrome valve covers and the two valve adjustment covers. The chrome cover on the left is a free floating stud from underneath...don't forget to put this back like I did as you reinstall the head cover!
Pull the 10mm cover bolts from around the head cover and lay them on something in the pattern you took them out. They are all different lengths so you need to keep them in order. Two of these are inside the adjustment cover openings.
Note! there is one 10mm on the right side inner group that you should not remove, it is marked with an "A". I think it is the forward one of the inner group. You have to lift up in the right side of the head cover to clear the cam chain and then it will slide out to the left side. I left the decompression cable attached so the head will just hang there for you.
Tip the bike from side to side to let the oil drain back into the crankcase. Then dry and clean the gasket areas well on both the head and head cover.
Yank the old seal out, I used a small pliers. Clean inside the hole, put a film of RTV on the new seal and push it home. Apply a nice film of the rtv around the mating surfaces on the head cover and a bit in around the oil journal
o-ring (egg shape), stuff the breather filter way into the head so it doesn't interfere with anything and slide everything back into place.

Cautions:
1. Be sure the oil seal doesn't fall out.
2. You need to install the upside down stud and center 10mm bolt as you slide the cover back onto the head. You can't get them in after it's back in place.
3. The spark plug wire gets in the way...be sure to put it back before you put the chrome covers back on. Replace it while you're in there.
Pretty easy really.

Steve
